The Beginning
In 2017 Dr. Christopher Woodson and Dr. Raymond Klug founded Beach Orthopaedic Specialty Institute (BOSI), the premier orthopedic provider to Orange County, Greater Long Beach, and the South Bay of Los Angeles, CA. In 2021, Beach Orthopaedics welcomed Dr. Johannes Bernbeck who has over 30 years experience in spine surgery. In 2025, BOSI expanded its team with the addition of Dr. Armin Arshi, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip replacement and knee replacement and reconstruction. The vision of the practice is to provide the highest quality evidence-based orthopedic care in the area within a personalized and efficient office setting.

BOSI’s orthopedic surgeons are all fellowship trained. In addition, they are passionate about clinical outcomes, exploring the newest innovations in orthopedic surgery, clinical research, and explaining treatment options to patients in a systematic fashion. Non-operative modalities are the mainstay of treatment for most patients. When these treatments fail, surgery is carefully considered and personalized for each patient.
State-of-the-art Office
Our office facility is state-of-the-art with in-house x-ray, ultrasound, biologics, bracing, casting, and all facets of orthopedic care. Patient rooms have been thoughtfully designed with large wireless imaging screens to allow for careful review of radiographs or MRIs with patients and families. Beach Orthopaedic Specialty Institute is conveniently located adjacent to the Los Alamitos Medical Center.

I was referred to Dr. Bernbeck from my previous Orthopedic Surgeon who was leaving the state. Great referral! Without going into the details of the issue with my back, I needed to get the previous surgery corrected. Dr. Bernbeck used multiple tests to isolate the problem, recommend a corrective procedure and describe his entire process from pre surgery home activity through surgery, post op recovery and home health services with physical therapy. Both my wife and I were impressed with his thoroughness in explaining everything including risks. Surgery went to plan, even had someone who monitored spinal signal flow via stimulus and response signals, to ensure my safety during the procedure. Dr. Bernbeck was there daily to check on me after surgery. I am very satisfied with the results just a few weeks after surgery. Dr. Bernbeck is excellent, easy to work with, nice guy, great surgeon. I would highly recommend him to anyone who would welcome a thorough evaluation and a competent surgeon.

The surgery went extremely successfully. From years of disability and pain straight to being able to put your own socks on for the first time in 5 years and after that straight to the prospect of jogging and hiking in the mountains. Honestly, did not expected such a pace. And also did not expected the pace the memory of chronic pain vanishes. Very happy about that.

My first knee injury was in 1972, a torn ACL and MCL playing sports. Followed by 8 arthroscopic surgeries. I first saw Dr. Woodson in 2015 in absolute desperation, and he recommended a total knee replacement. I was terrified. However the surgery was necessary and I have a very physically demanding job. I thought I was done professionally.
I couldn’t possibly be more pleased with the results, 100% recovery and increase in quality of life. To the point of having my second knee done in 2017. All it did was completely change my life, and give me my life back after 43 years.
