I am a very active person and have been exercising religiously for 40 years. When you wake up one day and find you suddenly cannot walk 10 feet, in constant pain, it is pretty scary! At an eye appointment one floor below, the Nurse saw my pain and gave me the name of Doctor Bernbeck’s practice. They saw me immediately, which itself is a minor miracle. After trying Physical Therapy for six weeks, it was obvious my condition – spinal stenosis – was getting worse by the day. On October 8th Doctor Bernbeck operated on me, by Thanksgiving I was back in the gym. Currently it is like “nothing ever happened”, which leaves my wife and friends awestruck. I will forever be grateful that I happened upon this practice and this doctor. Great Job!!!!!

I am not nervous or anxious about going into an operating room-but I’ve always left it up to the surgeon as to whether he wants me “out” when I’m wheeled in or if I can be awake and help move myself from the gurney to the table. After all, it’s their show. This was the first time I was fully awake and was on the gurney when Dr. Bernbeck stood over me, introduced me to the surgical team and went over the procedure, what he expected and what he wanted ready to go for the operation. For me, it was so very interesting-and appreciated. I can imagine that it doesn’t work for everyone and there are time constraints, anxiety levels, etc. that can change from patient- to- patient, but for me, it was the very best experience. Add to that his talent and you have another star.

I was referred to Dr. Bernbeck from my previous Orthopedic Surgeon who was leaving the state. Great referral! Without going into the details of the issue with my back, I needed to get the previous surgery corrected. Dr. Bernbeck used multiple tests to isolate the problem, recommend a corrective procedure and describe his entire process from pre surgery home activity through surgery, post op recovery and home health services with physical therapy. Both my wife and I were impressed with his thoroughness in explaining everything including risks. Surgery went to plan, even had someone who monitored spinal signal flow via stimulus and response signals, to ensure my safety during the procedure. Dr. Bernbeck was there daily to check on me after surgery. I am very satisfied with the results just a few weeks after surgery. Dr. Bernbeck is excellent, easy to work with, nice guy, great surgeon. I would highly recommend him to anyone who would welcome a thorough evaluation and a competent surgeon.

Dr. Bernbeck is simply awesome–his care, expertise, and thoroughness have changed my life.  I have had so many issues with my back that have left me in horrible pain and unable to walk.  Sitting, standing and walking were excruciating. After diligent and expert care from Dr. Bernbeck I am back on my bike, stairmaster and attending Pilates classes. I can walk 20,000 steps without pain.  Dr. Bernbeck kept me off the surgeon’s table and am grateful.  Dr. Bernbeck is extremely punctual with his appointments.  I have never had to wait to be seen.  Do not hesitate to trust Dr. Bernbeck with your orthopedic needs.  You will be very happy to have such a wonderful expert helping you on your road to healing.

I went in for sciatica pain and ended up finding out I had a herniated disc and had back surgery. The surgery with Dr. Bernbeck went so well and my pain is gone! He’s a life changer. I highly recommend him and his staff was very nice as well.

I saw Dr. Bernbeck as a second opinion and I am so glad I decided to do that. He is a very good surgeon and a thorough practitioner. He covered every possible scenario before it happened so I would be prepared if it did. He was extremely professional and his staff are excellent. Marlena the surgery scheduler was a godsend and the receptionist and back office staff are really the highlight of the practice. Great doctors attract the best staff. Thank you for making me feel welcome, comfortable, and less scared.

I am writing this review for my 85-year-old mother. I am a recently retired chiropractor with 35 years of practice experience. I feel this lifetime of experience has given me a little extra insight when reviewing a physician, particularly when regarding the spine. My mother had lower back, buttock and leg pain which left her unable to walk without bending forward. She could only walk if she was bent forward, using a walker or hanging onto a shopping cart for support. She was unable to stand up straight without experiencing sharp, shooting pain in her buttock and leg. This is called a “Shopping Cart Sign”, which indicates severe spinal stenosis. As you can imagine, I had lots of questions for Dr. Bernbeck. Many of them more technical than the average person would be able to ask. Usually, I would get a second opinion. However, I was so satisfied with Dr. Bernbeck’s demeanor, and his honest, straightforward answers to my questions, that we decided to go forward with the procedure without a second opinion. We could not be more happy with the decision. Following the procedure, Dr. Bernbeck responded quickly to adjust pain medication to keep my mother comfortable. There was usually a return call within two hours. It is now four weeks after surgery. My mother walked a mile yesterday with no pain. There is still some off and on soreness, which Dr. Bernbeck told us we should expect for a few more months. Overall, this was an excellent experience, and I would highly recommend Dr. Bernbeck to any of my friends or colleagues. My review – 10 out of 10.

I am absolutely overwhelmed by the quality of the doctors, staff and facilities at BOSI. Chris and Ray are great and I’ve known that for a while. My experience with Dr. Bernbeck wasn’t just superior, it was stellar. As you know, I’ve had more than my share of surgeries with a number of quality surgeons. You’ve got the top three guys around and I couldn’t say more than that. I’ll continue to let everyone know.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how very impressed I am with everything there, from the first visit all the way through post-op and follow-up.

Dr. Bernbeck is a life changer, please don’t take those words as an overstatement. I’m in my mid 30’s having played sports all my life, I hurt my back in May, tried to tough through the pain and wound up on my back for the full month of October. I saw my primary, 2 chiropractors, a sports chiro/wellness center, and even upon getting an epidural everyone said surgery was in my short term future. Dr. Bernbeck suggested a different path via physical therapy and evolving my workout plan to strengthen the supporting muscles. Here I stand a year post injury feeling better than I have since my 20’s, I have my life back (no pun intended) and couldn’t be more thankful. The thought of back surgery in your 30’s felt like I was going to be giving up so much of what makes me me and now I’m not living in a world of fear of a setback and struggling to get off of the ground. I cannot thank Dr. Bernbeck and the amazing staff for getting me back to me. Who’d have thought that a surgeon’s first move would be to provide a path without surgery rather than just hit go, but that’s exactly what he did.
